(Greenfield, MA) Elijah Michonski was sentenced to 40 years to life in state prison after pleading guilty to second degree murder on Tuesday with the possibility of parole after 25 years served. The charge of second degree murder was reduced from first degree murder. Michonski was also charged with armed assault with intent to murder and three other charges for which he was sentenced an additional 15 years in state prison.
Michosnki attacked his aunt and uncle, Theresa and Nicholas Weir, on July 3rd, 2020 after breaking into their Montague home. Nicholas died the next day and Theresa was left with multiple stab wounds, a fractured skull, and other injuries. The case was investigated by the Montague Police Department and the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit attached to the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office; the case was prosecuted by the Northwestern First Assistant District Attorney Steven Gagne with the Northwestern Assistant District Attorney Sandra Staub.
