GREENFIELD, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — The Franklin County Fairgrounds in Greenfield has is temporarily declining to host motor sports activities there. The decision was made as a result of noise and air pollution concerns raised by several residents of the fairgrounds neighborhood in recent months.
An air quality monitor is being installed, and the city is working on updated guidelines, something Michael Nelson, President of the Franklin County Agricultural Society, which runs the fairgrounds, welcomes.
“It’s definitely something we are looking forward to having,” said Nelson. “Air quality is certainly something a lot of people are concerned about. We want to be sure we are doing our part in keeping our community safe.”
Nelson says motor sports events at the upcoming Franklin County Fair, such as the dirt bike show, the truck pull, and the demolition derby, will take place as always.
