GREENFIELD, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — Eversource is set to begin work in western Mass on the region-wide switchover to smart meters. The smart meters will allow for more accurate electrical use readings, so residents can get monitor and manage their electricity use and see projected bills, residents can also get high-usage alerts and power outages will be reported automatically.
Meters that are located outside and accessible, will not require the electric customer to do anything in the changeover process and an outage of approximately five minutes will be the only interruption to service. Those will interior meters will find a notice requesting an appointment to make the switch.
The smart meter switchover will begin with Western Massachusetts before moving to other parts of the Eversource northeast region.
