DEERFIELD, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — The Deerfield Zoning Board of Appeals voted to approve two special permits for the Friends of the Franklin County Dog Shelter’s new shelter proposal at 0 Greenfield Road with conditions that when the dogs are utilizing the outside play areas that the south side, away from abutters, would be the preferred location.
A noise study was completed by the applicant and presented at last night’s meeting, addressing one of the community’s concerns for the project, which showed that the noise from the shelter is not predicted to surpass the level of an air conditioner during the rare times when there are barking dogs.
A former abutter of the current dog shelter site in Turners Falls, and current neighbor of the proposed site, gave comment in Thursday’s meeting saying as a direct neighbor, she had never heard dogs barking and the facility has been run incredibly well.
