GILL, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — The only town-owned bridge in Gill is down to one-lane after a Massachusetts Department of Transportation inspection deemed emergency interventions necessary for safety.
The inspection on May 14th, 2025 found that the two outer beams have deteriorated significantly, leading to the necessary closure of one lane of the bridge for safety purposes.
The North Cross Road Bridge, over Dry Brook, was erected in 1940 and will now need to be completely rebuilt.
The bridge is listed on the National Bridge Inventory, thus making it eligible for federal funding, which MassDOT will investigate further along with other funding sources.
