COLRAIN, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — Just in: The Colrain Fire Department has issued an update for Tuesday morning, letting the public know crews are back on scene today and have found the fire to have stayed within the fire line overnight. Today’s work will center on strengthening fire lines and extinguishing the flames. HO State Forest Road will remain closed today.

The fire in the Cook State Forest is believed to have been started by a lightning strike and crews from across the county and Southern Vermont worked Monday to build a fire line around the fire by hand. The fire is estimated to have burned five acres of heavy timber. Operations are expected to continue today and tomorrow. Please continue to avoid the area and be aware that smoke may impact air quality.
