GREENFIELD, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — The City of Greenfield is inviting community members to help plant trees and shrubs at the Millers Meadow on Colrain Street, a project that is central to the City’s climate resilience efforts.

Building a Greener Greenfield: Community Volunteers Needed for Millers Meadow Planting
The City of Greenfield is inviting community members to help with planting at Millers Meadow. The City is
teaming up with Greening Greenfield, Youth Climate Action of Franklin County (YCAFC), and Land Stewardship, Inc. to restore Millers Meadow, a key project in the City’s climate resilience efforts. This restoration is made possible by a climate resiliency grant from the Commonwealth’s Municipal Vulnerability and Preparedness (MVP) Program, which has funded the purchase of native trees and pollinator flowers. This initiative aims to mitigate flooding from the Green River while enhancing biodiversity, and is already underway, with over 400 trees and shrubs already planted by more than 100 community volunteers and City staff.

Help Reforest the Riverbank
This fall, the City is aiming to plant 300 more trees and sow a new pollinator meadow. This is a great opportunity for community members to help restore the floodplain and support local wildlife. Training, tools, and refreshments will be provided, and no prior experience is needed. Volunteers are encouraged to bring a pair of gloves.
