A side by side comparison of the old fire station vs. the temporary fire station.
Some historical items that will be brought from the old Greenfield fire station into the new fire station, including the bell tower with the old weather vane on top, an old alarm, and other artifacts. The bell tower is as old as the station, which was built in 1937.

The old Greenfield station does not have enough space for fire fighters to work on the engines indoors.

(Greenfield, MA) Greenfield Fire Chief Robert Strahan said the temporary fire station will be an adjustment but in terms of space, definitely an upgrade. The facilities holding the engines are heated, air conditioned, and spacious. The department hopes to be in the temporary facility in September, and the current estimate for the use of that facility is 22 months. Also on site are sleeping and living quarters and a kitchen. While work is ongoing, Strahan said he was grateful to everyone who was working to get the facilities built. While there is one drive-through door, there are multiple doorways that the engines can be brought into and out of. With the space in the temporary facility, fire fighters can work on the engines indoors. Currently, there is not enough room for work to take place indoors and the engines must be brought outside. Many historical elements are also being brought with the station including the September 11 memorial and the weather vane.
