Staff Report
(Massachusetts) Students and staff at Massachusetts public schools will no longer have to wear face coverings while indoors starting Feb. 28th. Gov. Charlie Baker and state Education Commissioner Jeffrey Riley announced the decision Wednesday. They said it was made in consultation with infectious disease physicians, the state Department of Public Health, and other medical experts.
The Republican governor said it’s time to give students a sense of normalcy, citing the state’s national leadership in children’s vaccination rates and robust school testing programs. The decision in Massachusetts comes as the governors of several other states have announced plans to lift school mask mandates by the end of February or March.
