GREENFIELD, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — Despite a blazing sun and extreme heat, a nice crowd turned out for the annual Juneteenth Celebration in Greenfield.
Festival goers took in live musical performances, enjoyed various foods and cultural experiences at Beacon Field.
Jessye Deane, the Executive Director of the Franklin County Chamber of Commerce was pleased with the turnout in the sweltering conditions.
“It’s beautiful! It is a little hot, but it’s such a great day and such a great community celebration,” said Deane. “It’s so wonderful to be here celebrating with our friends and neighbors at such an important event.”
The primary organizer of the event is Mpress of Greenfield Savings Bank. Mpress said the festival had something for everyone.
“A lot of diversity in people out here today,” said Mpress. “I just love it. You see older people dancing to the African drums, and whole energy of it was something I definitely wanted to accomplish.”
The extreme heat forced the cancellation of the parade through the city, but organizers went forward with the festival at Beacon Field despite the less-than-ideal weather conditions.
