SHELBURNE, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — A Winchester, New Hampshire man was arrested Friday night on multiple charges as a result of a traffic stop on Route 2.
According to Shelburne Police, a pickup truck was clocked at 68 miles per hour in a 50 mph zone on Route 2. Officer Jeffrey Belanger pulled over the vehicle and ran the Vermont license plate. Police discovered the plate belonged to a Chevy Tahoe.
The driver told police he did not have his driver’s license on him or any paperwork on the vehicle, and provided a name, date of birth, and social security number, claiming he was from Bellows Falls, Vermont. The information provided did not match anyone in New England, according to police.
A search of the vehicle was conducted, and a .38 caliber bullet was found, as well as additional ammunition, a loaded handgun, and four knives.
Also found were two prescription pill bottles containing prescription drugs. Both bottles contained prescription drugs that did not match what the label indicated was in them.
The operator ultimately admitted to being the male party listed on one of the prescription drug bottles. His identity was confirmed as a man from Winchester, New Hampshire.
The man was charged with possession of a firearm without a license, possession of high-capacity magazines, possession of Class E drugs, attaching plates, operating after suspension, and speeding. He also had an active warrant out for his arrest issued out of Greenfield District Court from 1997. He was held on bail pending arraignment.
Colrain and State Police assisted Shelburne police in the investigation.
