I-91 closures, detours coming to Northampton on Sunday

A Traffic Advisory has been issued by the Massachusetts Department of Transporation relating to upcoming bridge work on Interstate 91 in Northampton.

NORTHAMPTON, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — A Traffic Advisory has been issued by the Massachusetts Department of Transportation relating to upcoming bridge work on Interstate 91 in Northampton.

Northampton officials said that MassDOT will conduct a full closure of I-91 between Exits 23 and 26 for six overnights starting this coming Sunday June 8 through Sunday June 15.

Traffic management will begin at 8 p.m. each night and the road closure will be in effect from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m. each night.

Drivers traveling along Interstate 91 North will follow a detour at Exit 23 (Route 5/Mount Tom Road) and travel north on Route 5 through Northampton and then re-enter I-91 at Exit 26 (North King Street). Those heading south on I-91 will follow the detour at Exit 26 (Route 5/North King Street), travel south on Route 5 through Northampton, and get back onto I-91 at Exit 23 (Mount Tom Road).
