(Franklin County) The uncertainty around COVID-19 is creating anxiety about what surfaces may carry the virus. Baystate Health is weighing in on the uncertainty and clarifying when to worry and how to stay safe. According to Baystate Health, catching COVID-19 from food items like a bag of chips or a box of cereal is low. Public surfaces, like grocery carts and door handles, are a different story. Good handwashing is the key during the COVID-19 crisis, for everything from takeout food to grocery items. While the risk of catching the virus from packaging is low, hand washing reduces the risk of infection in any context.
