(Greenfield, MA) The Greenfield Fire Department wants people to be aware of the rise in cooking related fires in the summer months. Outgoing District Chief Michael Swain explained that the rise in fires is due to the increased amount of people cooking from home during the pandemic. Swain also warned that gas stoves and water heaters are a source of carbon monoxide in the home, and everyone should test their smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors on a regular basis, even in the summer.

“It important to remember many of the same sources of fire and carbon monoxide are still in your homes all season long,” said Swain.
