(BOSTON) — Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker today urged Bay State residents to closely follow Covid 19 restrictions and protocols in an effort to stem the recent uptick in cases in certain communities across the state.

The governor said his administration has reached out to officials in each municipality that has seen an increase in infections recently, and in each case, those officials said they observed large gatherings where people were not social distancing or wearing masks. Baker said 33 communities across the state are seeing more than four COVID-19 cases per 100,000.

Baker said his administration is reaching out to local leaders in moderate and high risk communities to offer state support in combating the virus. State officials are encouraging residents in those communities to be sure to wear masks, keep their distance from others and avoid large gatherings.
