ATHOL, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — The Athol Annual Town Meeting takes place tonight at 7:00 p.m. at the Athol Town Hall (584 Main Street). The legislative assembly is open to all registered voters to directly determine the town’s governance.

Tonight’s warrant covers several major local decisions: Fiscal Year 2027 Budget: The meeting will vote on a proposed budget of just over $21.5 million. This budget represents an attempt to tackle a $1.7 million deficit over the next two fiscal years and includes 4.5 town employee layoffs, as well as the elimination of summer beach and recreation programs.

Liquor Licenses: Voters will decide on multiple requests for additional liquor licenses, including a specific article (Article 25) supporting a full liquor license for a local business, Country Convenience.

Town Awards & By-laws: The town will also present the “Citizen of the Year” award and address community-sought revisions to local town by-laws.

If you are a registered voter, you can attend in person to cast your vote. To read the full warrant and documents, you can visit the Town of Athol Town Meeting page.
