AMHERST, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — After years of struggle, Hampshire College is closing. The College’s Board of Trustees has voted to permanently close the college after the Fall 2026 semester.
A confluence of declining enrollment and funding, and rising costs led to the decision after nearly a decade of struggles for the liberal arts college.
The college will provide services to current students, including holding graduation ceremonies this spring and after the final fall semester.
In addition, the college will assist undergraduate students in transferring to other institutions, including partner schools Amherst College, Bennington College, Mass. College of Art and Design, Mass. College of the Liberal Arts, Mount Holyoke College, Prescott College, Smith College and the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
